Two Lofts!

This morning I cut out my "second" loft using the original one as a pattern. Casey emailed me some great tips about working with foam core. Thanks Casey! I had two different brands of foam core. The WalMart stuff and some Gator foam. The Gator foam is much nicer.

I'm going to seal the walls with Gesso and then paint them. I hope they won't warp or fall apart! One of the walls will be covered with fabric. I read somewhere that spray adhesive is the best thing to use with foam core.

I just realized that my Starbuck's coffee stirrers are the perfect size for framing the windows. My supply is getting low. I hope they will refill my cup again?! :D

I'm still trying to decide what to do on the exterior. I've cut some of the windows larger than the ones in the kit. I like the idea of corner windows... we'll see?

I doubt I will get much more done today. I've been running a fever all weekend. Not sure why? Nurses don't get sick! I don't get sick! I have NO time in my little world for sick! LOL

Hope you have a good day! I'm going back to bed...

Disqualified?

I will probably be disqualified from the Creatin' Contest. I have decided to use the loft kit as a "pattern" for a new build! This morning I'm working on the roof.

I found this kitchen back splash at Home Depot. I like the wavy pattern and I love the brushed nickle finish! It is black on the under side. Perfect.

Here is how it looks with the skylights cut out.

Next I will cut new walls from foam core. I plan to add more windows upstairs and down. The loft area will stay, but I'm planning to extend it out from the house. I want to make an outdoor seating area with a garden below.

When I'm finished I will still have the original kit! :D

Thanks for following along as I keep changing my mind about things! Hope you have a great day!

Exposed Duct Work?

I found just the thing I needed at Home Depot yesterday. It was in the electrical department. I think it will make perfect duct work for my loft. :D

Here are some photos I found online for inspiration. If you want to see more loft ideas check out LoftsofBoston.com.

I found some other things that I will show you later. I'm excited to start work on the ceiling!

I picked up a million paint samples too. I'm still waiting on my fabrics before I decide on colors.

I won't tell you how long I was at Home Depot OR how much money I spent but I had a great time!

Hope you have a good Friday!

Design Board in Progress

I played with Gesso, paint, fun foam, cardstock, paper, spackle and sandpaper this morning. I have a couple of odd pieces of MDF to use for making design boards.

I think this is a good way to see how different textures and ideas might look on the exterior of my "house." So far, the fun foam (far right) and the wood are winning. I want to try bricks too.

I like this color combination. Perhaps a bit brighter though...

After work, I'm going to Home Depot to see what other things I could use. I have an idea for the loft ceiling. I know I can find what I need in the plumbing department. :D I may stop by the electrical department too?

More on this later... Gotta go back to work now. My lunch hour is not LONG enough!

Foggy Morning Photos

I took these photos yesterday morning from the deck that is just off my craft room. My rental house sits on the top of a hill. There are no neighbors behind me.

I have a lovely view that changes with the seasons. Within just a few minutes, as the sun was coming up, the trees started coming to life.

I love waking up with the birds and listening to them greet the day. It is so peaceful on mornings like this. I am definitely a morning person! :D

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Wall Art?

I want to try something different on the exterior walls of my coffee shop. I've thought about bricks and I've thought about siding. I've thought about stucco and I've thought about paint.

I think this image by Steven Meyers is inspiring. It is done by exposing plants or flowers to xray. Beautiful isn't it? I wonder what else I could xray? :D

I've always wanted to try doing sun prints. Check this out at How About Orange. There are lots of interesting things blooming right now! I can see reflections of other buildings, lamp posts, parking meters, shadows of cars...

I found the amazing project below by Green Works at Inhabitat.com. It is done by cleaning off a dirty wall to make designs. Not sure how I would accomplish this, but I like it. So much better than graffiti painted on!

I've thought about the old tin dollhouses and how they were painted. In fact, I've thought of so many things that my head is spinning! I need to settle down and get back to work!!!

Hope you have a great day! I'm tired already!

One Little Chair

Here is one little chair I finished for the coffee shop. It is 2 inches tall.

Daylight savings time is cutting into my time in the mornings to make minis! Guess I will need to start getting up even earlier!

Gotta go to work now.... Hope you have a good day!

Decisions, Decisions - Update!

I went fabric shopping at EQuilter.com today. They allow you to save your choices on a design board for later. I'm trying to decide what fabrics to use in the coffee shop?

I like the first one for the wall behind the counter. The next two might make nice drapes? The others may work for furniture, pillows or rugs? There are just too many patterns. I want them all! :D

It's really hard for me to wrap my head around these earthy colors. I do like them. I want to get my fabric before I buy paint etc. Which ones do you like?

I'm working on a chair right now. Here is my inspiration. I'm sorry, but I can't remember where I found this photo.

Here is my attempt at making a pattern for these chairs. I may try using colored fun foam with a wooden or wire frame? I've got more cutting to do...

Speaking of chairs. How about these beauties?!!!

HomeDesignerCorner.com

Update: I just placed my fabric order. Thought you might like to see what I decided on. I had to add the pretty turquoise fabric! You know I couldn't have a dollhouse that didn't have some blue in it somewhere! LOL

I already have some golden fabric in my stash. Now I'm off to look at paint samples!

Sweet dreams!

Watch How It Works

I'm cutting paper again this morning. I found an idea for making modern chairs that I like. More on them later....

Along the way I found this website. Another Studio For Design in London. They sell the cutest
pop up cards! Watch how they work!

Now how cute is that?! :D
