Mini Projects in the Master

I made this little book shelf today thinking I would use it in the kids room upstairs. Now that I'm looking at it again, I'm wondering if I could make drawers for it and use it here in the master bedroom?

I've never made a dresser with drawers that open. Hopefully, someone knows how to do it and can share their secrets with me?

I painted the bedroom Benjamin Moore's "White Satin." It's a really pretty blue, not white!

I also picked out the fabric for the bed. I think I'm going to make a comforter instead of a quilt. Maybe a white one that looks like down with the blue floral as sheets?

My sewing machine isn't working right. I'm still working on the quilts for the kid's beds! Having to stitch them all by hand is taking a very long time!!

I made one of Rosanna's little beach bags too. Her tutorial was great! I used a little hand held pencil sharpener to wrap the fabric and braid around. Perfect size and shape! Lots of glue was used in this project!

So, what do you think? Should I try to add drawers to the bookshelf or just paint it and let it be?

Blessings, Kathi

  1. Lookin' good!

If you want drawers, they don't really have to work! Who would know? Well, we blog folowers would, but that is okay. ;-) If you can cut 3 pieces of wood to fit in each shelf, you can transform it into a dresser. Just add some knobs (beads, or some little shells would be cute. I have made drawers countless times, and it is a heckovalot easier to make them while constructing the piece, rather than adding them later.

  2. Everything is lovely! Love the white that's really a pretty blue and the beach bag--I will have to search for that tutorial! If you can add drawers, go for it! It's a nice piece as is but would look good with drawers as well. I just re-ordered a book I had but have lost. It's an older book that gives lots of directions for various furniture pieces which I'm going to try soon!

  3. Wow! I missed so much over the last few days. I love what you are doing. I think it is great that you have a theme for your house. I just can't quite figure that out for mine and I think I need some sort of idea before I plow ahead. Oh well..........I'm sure it will come to me eventually. I love Fiasco!! What a cute addition!

Crikey, you're habdstitching the quilts?!!! They will look fabulous, much better that machine stitched ones.
As for the drawer question, I always prefer shelves 'cos you can fill them up with all sorts of wonderful things to look at!

  6. Maybe drawers with tiny little anchor knobs? But I think it'll look stunning and beachy as a white shelf too. The boat is too cute!
