I still need to make some linens. For now, I just used the mattress from my other bed and a pretty crocheted afghan I purchased a while ago. I think I'll make all white bedding?I found a white men's shirt at the Mission thrift store today. It's a Calvin Klein shirt, 100% cotton and has a soft white stripe in it. I think it will make pretty sheets and pillow cases. It was only $1.50 and I can make an entire wardrobe full of linens with it! Thanks Calvin!
Here is what the bed looks like without the mattress. I used square wooden dowels for the frame and Star Buck's sticks for the slats. The rest of the bed is thick card stock covered with linen cross stitch fabric. The trim is braided leather.
You are NOT going to believe this, but I made the legs out of BALSA wood!
I think it looks a lot like my inspiration bed, don't you?

ReplyDeleteI love thrift stores for mini fabric. I dressed many of my saloon characters in thrift store finds. I think your CK shirt will make perfect bed linens.

ReplyDeleteTurned out beautifully, Kathi. And the CK shirt sounds perfect for the linens. I would suggest that you make the mattress a little higer than the one your are currently using. Look closely at the inspiration bed...you can see the mattress above the side boards. This bed would have a box spring as well as a mattress to raise it up a bit. This will help show off the pretty linens.
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous! Agree with Tabitha, there's something extra luxurious about a 'deep' mattress, and when it's dressed with CK linen surely you'll be able to charge a premium for this room at the inn ;)
