I played with Gesso, paint, fun foam, cardstock, paper, spackle and sandpaper this morning. I have a couple of odd pieces of MDF to use for making design boards.
I think this is a good way to see how different textures and ideas might look on the exterior of my "house." So far, the fun foam (far right) and the wood are winning. I want to try bricks too.
I like this color combination. Perhaps a bit brighter though...
After work, I'm going to Home Depot to see what other things I could use. I have an idea for the loft ceiling. I know I can find what I need in the plumbing department. :D I may stop by the electrical department too?
More on this later... Gotta go back to work now. My lunch hour is not LONG enough!
So, we meet again, Kathi! Good luck with your shopping trip at Home Depot! Your planning board looks interesting with all those pretty colours! How can you get so much done before going to work? You are a bundle of energy, young lady!

I love what you are doing with the modern building panels. If your kit is mdf, you may be able to use a router or saw and cut the panels into the mdf instead of applying something? Good luck at Home Depot!
ReplyDeleteOh, how I WISH I had a router and/or a table saw! They have been on my wish list forever! I do have a Dear Dremel. I may try that? I have a hard time keeping it from jumping around though. Tell me, please(!) that if I'm going to do this "full time" I NEED to buy the right tools!!!!

My manor is all 5/8 inch mdf. I had the main pieces cut at the hardware store but cut out all the openings and angled pieces with my dremel. I purchased a "multipurpose Cutting Bit" that goes onto the dremel and makes it much easier to control it here is the dremel link http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Attachments/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=565. The cutting bits included work very well on mdf. I talked about it on my blog http://www.englishmanordollhouse.blogspot.com/2011/10/roof-and-attic-floor-part-2-kitchen.html. ReplyDeleteOh, and have you ever looked at a Rockwell Bladerunner? Not for precision work, but it makes big pieces of wood into little ones quickly if you get quality blades!
