It's Beginning to Look like a Living Room!

As you can see there have been a few changes to the living room. :) The floor is done!

I've added some accessories too. I made the little beaded Christmas tree, the poinsettia and the wreath over the mantle. I'm really loving beads right now! So many ideas and possibilities!

The rug, fan, bear pillow and the little dolphin statue were Ebay finds.

I made the window blinds using Grazina's tutorial at the New England Miniatures Blog. Very tricky, but I think they were well worth the effort! I did something different at the top because I wanted them to be installed inside the window frame. I used a small piece of a 3/16" square wood dowel instead of the molding.

Please welcome my new pets! "Sienna," the golden retriever and "Sprite," the calico cat. Fiasco is no where to be found right now. Perhaps it's because of the cat?

Today's project will be a coffee table. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

The Empty Room

I finished installing the hardwood floor last night. I just need to sand it and apply the finish.

I'm going to leave it this natural color and just add a bit of shine. Can't wait to add the fireplace and bookshelves!

Hope you have a lovely day!

Some Progress Made

I started working on my hardwood floor installation this morning. It's been a project that I've wanted to do for a long time but didn't know where to start!

Thanks to Dale's comment on my last post, I got the advice I needed! Thanks Dale!

Here's the living room before. Doesn't look much like a beach house, does it?

Here's what I've done so far.

Sadly, I have to go get ready for work. I'd really like to stay home and finish this!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

The Big Reveal

Have you ever watched those design shows on television where they have a "big reveal" at the end? Sometimes they haven't finished all of the projects in time. They all run around staging everything anyway... Well, here you go!

My living room fireplace with built in bookcases!

You might notice that the cabinet doors are just taped in place and there is no crown molding (yet). I figure if they can do it on TV, so can I!

So just RELAX and imagine you are at a nice little cottage on the beach where the sun always shines! That's what I'm going to do!

Blessings,
Kathi

Bookshelves - Making Progress

I'm making progress with the bookshelves. I hope to finish them today? The cabinet doors are presenting a real challenge!

I've also been working on the walls and ceiling in the living room. I removed the chair rail where the fireplace and bookshelves will go and repainted the room. Hopefully, things will come together soon? The floor will be my next project!

Hope you have a good day!

Making Progress

I've been working on my fireplace and bookshelves. Here's what things look like so far...

I went to Mary Charles Dollhouse store yesterday and got some little trim and crown molding for the bookshelves. I still need to glue them together, add the shelves and finish painting.

I also need to remove the chair rail that's in the living room. I found out that a hair dryer will soften wood glue so pieces can be taken apart. Maybe it will work for the chair rail?

Hope the sun shines where you are today!

Great Room / Kitchen Design Ideas

I've been collecting ideas from around the web for my living/dining/kitchen. I want to make this one big room into a great room. Have you ever seen a dollhouse great room?

There is another room to the left that could be the kitchen but I want to make that a craft room. Who cooks at the beach anyway? Not me!

Here are some of the photos I've found. I've been at this for quite a long time so I don't remember the links. Hope you enjoy dreaming with me!

I wish I could remember who posted this dollhouse kitchen so I could thank them! It is perfect! I love the cabinets and shelves and all of the accessories!

The one below is exactly the look I'm going for. Hope I can copy it in miniature!

This great room layout is what I have in mind. My fireplace will be on the opposite wall.

The one below is my favorite. Simple and cozy.

Check out the shell fireplace in this room! Wheels are turning in my mind right now!!

So, here's where I'll start. Finish the fireplace and build the bookshelves.

Of course I'll need a dining table. Like this one?

Maybe some cute little chairs like these??

I have one last inspirational photo to show you. I hope to take my staircase from this:

To this!

Another idea from Completely Coastal. Amazing!

That's enough dreaming for one day. Time to get to WORK!

Kathi
