Dining Room Before and After

I painted the walls and trim white and painted the table.

I found this pink lamp shade at my thrift store and attached a capiz shell wind chime inside it.
There are lots of tutorials about adding a shade to a fan. I liked this one at Thrifty Decor Chick.

Another idea I found on Design Sponge is to paint a design on window film. I did a search for "hibiscus graphics" and found this beautiful design.

I'm going to try using a paint pen and trace this pattern onto clear contact paper. We'll see how it works?

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

I have finally decided on a color for the exterior of my coffee shop. It's called "Pineapple Upside Down Cake" by Glidden. Don't you just love the names they give colors? :D

The other colors you see will be inside or for trim. I hope Home Depot can do some good color matching for me? The green is a bit more limey than this photo shows.

I haven't finished sealing the walls. The first one turned out fine after the second side was painted with Gesso and weighed down. I made the left corner window larger and may add more windows? Still thinking about that...

I just called my boss to let him know I am STILL running a fever and won't be into work again today. My doctor called in an antibiotic for me yesterday. Hopefully, once I get started on the medicine this nasty virus or whatever I have will GO AWAY!!!

Thanks for all of your well wishes and helpful comments on my last post. I love Sandra in Sydney's ideas for doing stucco. Thanks Sandie!

"For a stucco finish I've had good results in 1:12th scale using facial tissues (one ply at a time) and painting it on sort of roughly to the surface; also by mixing talcum powder into the paint to make a gloopy mix and dabbing it on with a coarse brush then giving it extra texture if desired with the ends of the bristles of another coarse brush."

I tried the tissue idea. I just painted a piece of foam core, lay the tissue on the wet paint and lightly dabbed it with a stiff brush. You do have to be careful not to "dab" too much. Great results!

Hope you have a lovely day! I will be popping out from under the covers now and then to see what everyone is doing. :D

Cutting Holes

I've started hacking away at the garage to make the window openings. MDF is really hard to cut! I used my jig saw but had trouble doing the corners. The dormer does fit and with some interior trim I think it will look okay?

The first window looks alright. The second one is a real mess. That's all I could do with my jig saw and hand saw.

I need to go get a diamond cutting wheel for my dremel to finish this. Karin Corbin used one in her tutorial for cutting window openings. She makes this look easy, but it's NOT!

I guess priming everything will be the next step? I'm also looking for some wallpaper for the attic. I want to finish the interior walls before I do the outside.

I may try to make concrete block walls for inside of the garage? I sprayed some cardstock with textured paint but it's not the right color. Once I get that figured out, I'll cut the blocks and start gluing them on like tiles.

I love daylight savings time. More light in the evenings for minis!

Painting on Plastic

I went to Michael's yesterday to get a few things for my little house project. I found some really cool pens that will write on plastic, glass and just about anything else.

They are Sharpie Poster Paint pens. They are oil based, water resistant and opaque. I bought the extra fine point pens in black and white. I tried the white one on clear plastic and cellophane. Then I made some windows for my little house.

The more things I add to the house, the more things keep falling off! Again, I can see little things I need to fix. I don't like the tiny window at the top. Maybe a round one would look better?

I won't tell you how long this took so far. I don't want to remember that part.

Hope you have a really good day.

Look What I Won!

I won this entire set of windows and a door on Ebay this morning! Got a great deal too! Some days it really pays to get up early!

I will be adding windows to the sides of my craig's list house and an outside staircase like my inspiration house. I also got a porch railing that is already assembled so I can add the upstairs balcony.

I just love all of the details on this house! Can't wait to start get started on mine!

Blessings,
Kathi

Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe

I'm thinking about adding a window to my upstairs dollhouse bedroom. It will look down on the conservatory room downstairs. Here are three I'm considering. Which one do you like?

I would like a view like this!
Or maybe stained glass like this?

So while I'm cutting holes in my house, what would you suggest?

Blessings,
Kathi
