I'm using Josje's tutorial to make the tiles for my bathroom walls. I made a little sample board to see how my first tiles looked. Not so pretty. They are NOT straight. Plus the glue got on the front of the tile. I think the tweezers I used made the little spots?
I want to make subway tile. In mini scale they will be 1/4 inch by 1/2 inch long.
I had problems cutting the tiles with my paper cutter because there is no 1/4 inch mark on the edge of the cutter. I found some free 1/4 inch graph paper online and printed it out. Then I used spray adhesive to attach it to the back of my painted card stock.
Now it will be easier to cut the tiles. I also sprayed one coat of clear gloss on the front. I hope it will keep the glue from messing up the tiles?
I have a lot of cutting and pasting to do today! Hopefully, my second attempt will turn out better.
I also want to make some special things for my thank you give-a-way. Don't forget to comment on this previous post if you would like to enter! I will be drawing the winning name tomorrow at 6 pm! I can't wait to see who wins!
Hope you have a beautiful day!
Blessings, Kathi

Oh clever idea with the graph paper...sometimes the most simple ideas are the best huh :-)
Love the colors of the tiles....I visit that blog as well.
Hi Kathi, You can make graph paper specific to the size you need in Word. It will let you set the grid to the size needed. You can print it straight onto (the back of) your card stock. It is important to cut them all the same size, otherwise it will be difficult to keep the tiling straight (and with darker colours it will be very obvious if it is not straight).
I think you need to make the grout line thinner. If you use a thicker card stock (like matt board)to glue the tiles onto, then it will be much easier to keep straight.
I don't know why you have spots on the paper, it could be the tweezers leaving those marks.
The project I am working on now also needs tiles so I did a couple of sample boards as well. Mainly to check the colours, but also to test a new spray varnish I bought. I accidently used one layer of my old varnish in between and ended up with a pretty interesting crackle effect. Not what I need now, but who knows what I'll be able to use it for one day.
Keep tiling! I'm sure you'll end up with a beautifully tiled wall. -Josje
Lovely how is by now. Love the colors!!!

Thanks Josje! Wish I had thought of printing the graph paper on the cardstock! You are so clever!
I've got all of my tiles cut now. I'll start gluing later.
Turquoise is so perfect for a bathroom!
