We Can Work It Out

I've done a lot of fussing and fighting today with my chairs.

One thing I learned is that it is almost impossible to glue painted pieces of wood together. A second thing I learned is that a 16th of an inch is HUGE. The third thing I learned is that it takes a lot of patience and perseverance to continue a project that keeps falling apart.

For some reason, this video came to mind.

I read somewhere that Gorilla Glue might work? Got any ideas? Help!

Floors and Molding

I'm looking at flooring for my dollhouse today. Here's the look I'd like to have. Isn't this floor beautiful!?

I'm researching the board sizes in real life so I can try to duplicate this in my dollhouse. I'd like to use skinny sticks or popsicle sticks? If anyone knows of a tutorial, please let me know!

The bookcases are almost finished. They just need some crown molding and another coat of paint. Here's a video I found on how to cut crown molding.

Piece of cake? I'll let you know! There's always another project waiting, isn't there??

My First Basket

Well, I started my first basket this evening. I'm a visual learner so I need pictures to follow. I'm using the About.com tutorial because it has several close up photos.

Here's where I taped the cording to a piece of mat board and glued the center.

Then I started weaving, following the instructions. It was very difficult to keep the tension even. As you can see the base is a bit out of shape. I'm going to keep going anyway. It is my first attempt, you know!

The base is supposed to be 1/2 inch X 1 inch. If I had read the entire tutorial before starting I would have measured first! I had to pull out this last blue row to get it the correct size...

So here's what it looks like now. A mess.

The sides are done with something they call "three rod waling." Whatever that is? It looks like you add two more cords and do a different pattern on the sides. I haven't figured that out yet. I'm going to bed.

Sweet Dreams,
Kathi

Photo Storage?

I'm looking for a site to store my photos.  I've found several that look interesting.  What do you use?

I'd like to be able to not only store my photos, but edit them and make collages.

My fat cat, Henry cat.

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have!  I switched to the new posting editor this morning too.  Not sure I like the new look?  Guess I'll have to fool with it awhile...

Hope you have a beautiful day!

What Glue Do You Use?

I've spent a lot of time waiting for glue to dry here!

Right now I'm trying to glue the legs on a little artist "adjustable" stool.

The legs sit like a triangle. Kind of like my telescope...

Tacky Glue is great for some things but it doesn't set fast enough. Anyone have any suggestions on a different glue that would be faster? It is difficult to sit here and hold three things together at the same time!

I actually cleaned up my kitchen this morning! I can see counter space again!

Next, it's on to the dining room where I have my dollhouse. I'm going to have to empty the house so I can get back to the restoration. It will be hard putting all of my mini things away for a while!

Here's the mini mess I've got to deal with!

Hope you have a nice Sunday and thanks for any help you have to offer!

Tiny Stitches

I am about to begin my first miniature cross stitch. I have no idea what I'm doing! I found this calculator online and will try using it to figure out how to re-size a chart I've made.

I stitched one letter and realized that I don't have the right count fabric. The smallest fabric I have is 22 count aida. If I complete my project, my finished design will be about 1" X 2" and that's too big.

If anyone has a tutorial or advice I would really appreciate your help! (Hint hint Rosanna!)

My eyes are crossed already and I haven't even begun!

Thanks, Kathi

Learning the Scale

Before I proceed with my mini-making I need to be sure that I'm making things in the right scale? Math was never my strong subject! I trying to use a 1 inch = 1 foot scale.

So far I've made beds, a bookshelf, bar, sofa, beach bag and a little wall shelf.
When I put these things side by side the sofa looks too small...

But in the photo below it looks alright? Are my eyes deceiving me or is it the camera?

The sofa and bed won't be in the same room so maybe they are okay?

I'm working on a dresser now. I've made the frame. Now I just have to figure out how to make the drawers? I also need to go get more wood. Love having a reason to go to Michael's!

Hope you have a great weekend! I love weekends! More time for mini-making!

Blessings,
Kathi
