Grandpa found this little dollhouse kit on Ebay. He will have to build this one, not me!
I have enough projects going already! Like this screen door I'm trying to build. I've never made a door before. I'm having to build my own door because the opening is too short for a regular door. Grandma will have to watch her head when she goes in and out. :D
I have been searching for screen material for this door for weeks. Yesterday on some dear railroader's site, someone left a comment that suggested using tulle.
I just happen to have yards of white tulle left over from when I made my daughter's wedding veil. (10 years ago!) I sprayed it lightly with silver gray paint. You can also buy black tulle ribbon but I didn't have any of that. I think it would make the perfect screen.
Thanks to all of the railroad modelers out there. You have some great ideas!

Great find .... how do you fit it all in your workshop ?....Paul
Paul, My workshop has taken over the kitchen and dining rooms too. I do need to have a great big clean up here soon. There is hardly enough room to open the microwave! LOL
That little kit is just gorgeous. I know how you feel about minis taking over your living space - if you want to eat at my house you have to push my work board out of the way first, and I swear there are more boxes of mini stuff than furniture in the bedroom! We're been talking recently about moving and my husband looked around lastnight and said "I'd just like something with a bit more space!" - I wonder why??!! ;)
Thank you for your compliments on my tulips on my blog!
The little dollhouse kit looks like great fun! I'm curious to see how your door will turn out. Tule or perhaps hospital gauze could work too? If you pull out every other thread it'll be even more open... But tule would indeed be the prettiest solution I think.. Anyway you'll probably turn it into something wonderfull :D
Once you are on a roll the project seems to take over everything. I know exactly how you feel. The sun has been shining in England and I am ashamed of the dust that is now even more visible!!
I have a feeling the mini dollhouse will take longer to make than the door. Tulle is a great idea for screening.
Another way to do it is to use mesh wall patch material which is used before applying the spackle compound. It would look more natural on a screen door.
