Bringing The Outside In

I wanted my beach house staircase to have an outdoor look. Like the wooden pilings you might see on a boardwalk at the beach.

I added more posts going up the stairs. Then I realized that the two outside posts were too tall, so I shortened them.

Here's how the living room looks now. It's finally time to accessorize! :D

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Quick Peek

Just a start. Still lots of work to do here!

Back to the Beach

Now that I had some rest and time to think about what to do next, I've decided to get back to work on my beach house.

The living room stairs have looked like this too long! Here are some projects that need to be finished.

I learned a lot while working on my teeny tiny house. My eyes have become more in tune to detail. I can see lots of things that need attention.

I'm going to add trim to the stairs and maybe a shelf on the bench wall? The plain white wall needs some art or a mirror? It will face the front door.

I may try to build a half round table to go there too? LOVE this one found at Coco Cozy!

I haven't really started on the kitchen. I bought the appliances on Ebay and am not sure I like them. I'm playing with ideas for the floor...

It's nice to be back to working in 1:12 scale again. :D

Hope your day is filled with inspiration and lovely little things!

Decisions Decisions...

I think there will be a change in plans. I received my beautiful blue wallpaper yesterday. Sadly, the colors just don't match anything I've made for my bathroom.

I thought about removing the turquoise tiles and putting white or yellow ones in their place? That would be a lot of work now that I have two walls of tile almost finished. Not sure I want to do that...

I'm also thinking of using the wallpaper in the living room. I'm not sure I want such a "busy" pattern in this large room?

I've been planning to recover my sofa anyway and these two fabrics match the wallpaper nicely. What do you think? Bathroom or living room? Save this wallpaper for my next house?!

Oh the decisions we mini decorators must make...

Kathi

Research and Development

No wonder I don't get much done in my real life! I'm spending too much time at this computer!

I promise I'll go do some laundry and clean up the kitchen as soon as I finish this post...

I laid down some popsicle sticks in the living room just to see how many it would take and how they might look. The popsicle sticks are 5/8 inch wide.

Then I tried Star Bucks coffee stirrers and liked them much better. They are 1/4 inch wide and look more realistic. You wouldn't think 1/8 of an inch would make much difference but it does. Guess I just might have to go back to Star Bucks!

The good thing about coffee stirrers is that you can cut them with scissors. Much easier to cut off the rounded ends than using a craft knife or saw.

One of these days I'll buy a nice saw from MicroMark.
I'm wondering if I can just glue the sticks right down to the plywood floor? Do you think they would warp? That's my biggest concern.

Thanks for following my progress, including the research and development!

Built In Bookcases - Day One

I'm so thankful to have found the coffee stirrers I needed for my beadboard bookcases! They were even the perfect length! 7 inches!

I spread a thin layer of wood glue on a piece of balsa wood and glued them down. Then I put them between two pieces of waxed paper and weighted them down overnight.

Here's how they look propped up in the living room with the fireplace. Next I'll be building the cabinets and shelves. More later...

Hope you have good Friday!

Kathi

Still Needs Work

Well, just as I thought, the painters didn't do a very good job painting the living room. I think I'll just tell them not to bother coming back. I'll do it myself.

I see that I'll need to possibly remove the trim so I can get the tiny bits of wallpaper off that were left from before... I don't really want to do that because I'm afraid that I'll break it.

I found some cocktail napkins in a pretty tropical print. I folded a piece and pinned it up to see how it would look for drapes. The print is way too big. If anyone knows where I can get small print tropical fabric, please let me know!

Anyway, I do like the yellow and will continue working on this room. More later...

Hope your day is going well!

Kathi

Living Room

I really need to get back to working on the dollhouse! This is the living room. So far, I've painted the trim and the walls white.

I like cottages with white on white rooms and just a bit of color in the accessories.

I also like to surround myself with color! It's amazing how just changing the color of a room can change the way you feel.

I painted my real life living room yellow and I love it. It's so sunny and cheerful, especially in the mornings. I was going to paint all of my old furniture white until this mini hobby took over!

I love the yellow walls. I also love my yellow cat!

Toby

And I love my fat cat!

Henry

These two, plus my two little daschunds, keep my house very furry!

Hope you have a lovely day!
