Waiting For Paint To Dry...

I'm working on my dining room furniture today.  I decided to use the Watermelon Smoothie paint for the table base.

The top will be white so I can use any color place mats and dishes.

I'm going to paint the chairs white too. That is, after I do a lot of sanding and priming!

I haven't decided what fabric I want to use for the seats? I do have an idea though.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Morning Mission

My mission this morning was to finish several projects. All at the same time! I had painting going on in the kitchen. Painting going on my work table. More painting on my desk.

This is what was accomplished since I woke up at 3 AM.  :D

✔  Applied second coat of peanut butter glaze on ceiling beams

✔  Painted third coat of pineapple upside down paint on upstairs ceiling

✔  Spackled downstairs ceiling where needed

✔  Finished bathroom basket weave tile. Applied first, second and third coat of spray varnish

✔  Finished palm pendant light

✔  Painted first coat of pistachio green on downstairs ceiling

Now I have to get ready to go to work. Real work.

Hope you have a productive day!

Some Progress

I've made some progress. I repainted the interior again. I'm working on a new door for the small restroom upstairs.

I want to make a mirror and maybe find some pretty wallpaper for the walls?

I cut a new second floor for the loft.  Right now I am trying to figure out how to cut the inside corner of my crown molding. Good thing I bought three pieces!

Mostly I've been thinking and making design decisions. I have something in mind that I am excited about. I just need to do some more research on how to build it.  :D

Hope you are having a good weekend!  It's cold here today. Cold for me anyway. I think I'll have to go turn on the heat!

Will It Ever Be Finished?

I took everything out of the kitchen yesterday. There is still a lot of work to do!

I finished the floor, filled in some gaps around the moldings and washed the window. I was going to just touch up the paint on the walls...

Then I realized that the paint color I had mixed a long time ago was all dried up. That's what happens when you start a project and don't finish it for a year or so! LOL

Now I have to repaint the entire room. I'm going to add some "wallpaper" to the ceiling too.

I'm making progress, but am wondering if my little kitchen will ever be finished?!

Changes in the Kitchen

Grandma requested more counter space, a deeper sink AND a dishwasher!
I'm trying to make her happy...

This means there will be changes in the kitchen. I still plan to use the pantry shelves. They will just need some trimming to fit above the dishwasher.

Here is a little a plate cabinet I've started. I'm using part of a Michael's hutch. The idea is from Carole at Let's Build A Dollhouse.

Today I need to level the counter, install the sink and faucets and add the door to the dishwasher. I still haven't figured out how to do the doors below the sink...

What are your plans for today? I hope you have fun making minis!

More on the Roof

I'm still working on the roof, cupola and dormer. Not quite happy with it all yet, but it's a start.

Hope you have a nice day!

Real Houseworks

I set up a table outside this morning with my real saw horses. I actually removed a door from its hinges to make the table. Don't tell my landlady!

I'm priming some of the pieces of the garage. These are just the walls and windows.

I'm using a spray primer for the windows. The walls are painted with a brush.

While these pieces are drying, I thought I would run in and do a quick post. I need to go back out and sand everything again.

I found a can of red paint for the exterior in my storage room. :D I had used it to paint the front door of the house I used to live in. Now I don't even have to go to the store today!

Better get back to work. Hope you have a good day!

A Whole Lotta Thinking Going On

I've been up all night thinking. Well, most of the night anyway. Thinking about the garage. Trying to decide what color to paint the outside?

My first inclination was to paint it to match the beach house. Then I realized I don't have a table large enough to display them together. So it won't really matter what color the garage is.

Last night I did my usual web search for ideas. I found this adorable birdhouse at The Songbird. It reminds me of my garage. :D

Photo from The Songbird

When I saw this house on Picasa, I knew I had found my colors!

Even the rusty shed out in my backyard seems to agree with me this morning?

Now I just need to go get some paint. But first, I have to drag myself to work and try to stay awake all day!

Trying Different Finishes

I'm trying different techniques to get the right finish for my chairs. I would like them to look bright, but weathered a bit.

First I painted some extra pieces of wood with acrylic paint.

Then I used "Weather-It" from MicroMark over the paint. It really didn't do much.

Next I tried coloring some wooden pieces with crayons.

Then I dipped them in poly stain and wiped off the excess.

I like this look better. I may try a couple more finishes before I decide which one to use? If you have any suggestions, please let me know. :D

I'm also going to try my Dremel to shape the side supports and arms of the chairs. I carved these with a razor blade.

I'm sure the Dremel will be easier (?) and safer! I haven't used my Dremel since I purchased it over a year ago. Hope I can figure it out. . .

My Green Thumb

Here is what I've been doing today...

Not only painting my thumb, but all of these!

Now I can get out the pink and red and yellow and paint some more!

These guys have been watching me with great interest. I have five of them now. These are the three I just bought. I guess that means I'm a "collector" of Nicky's wonderful birds? :D

Hope you are having fun today too?

Foam Brushes

I decided I needed a white shelf and a white cabinet for the bathroom. I'm using a Michael's hutch and made a shelf with Starbucks coffee stirrer sticks.

While I was painting with one of my handy dandy foam brushes, I wondered who invented these? Maybe if I had invented them I could retire and spend my days making minis and NOT having to go to work!

Real life size sign found at Beall's in Florida

Super Brush claims to be the company that invented foam brushes. If you visit their web site you can see all of the other handy swabs they've made.

What do you think about while you're making minis? I seem to drift off into another place when I'm painting or cutting and gluing.

The bathroom designer came in while Grandpa was installing the chandelier yesterday. She told him to stop. Seems she wants a ceiling medallion made before work continues...

Hope you have a fun filled Friday!

Kathi

Inside Outside Upside Down

I turned my house upside down yesterday so I could paint the porch ceiling and eaves.

I touched up some paint here and there. Somethings you just can't see unless you stand on your head or flip the house over!

Here you can see the new window and french doors. I think they look great. I'm not going to mess with the cracked glass. It's going to remind me that things don't have to be perfect to be beautiful!

It was so much easier to paint the ceilings with the house upside down. I still need to do some sanding and remove some old wallpaper bits from the bathroom and kitchen.

I guess the house will stay like this for a while...

Kathi

Stenciled Floor and Painted Door

I've been wondering what to do with the porch floor of my dollhouse. I primed it white yesterday. I sat and looked at it for a while and then had an idea...

Here's a stencil I found at Country Kitchen.
It is really a cake stencil. I think it will be perfect to use as a floor stencil?

Now I have to decide if I want the porch floor to be white or a sandy color? I'm leaning toward sandy with white shells. What do you think?

I'm having a bit of a problem with my window/door painting. I painted them shut!

Now I have to carefully cut along the openings so that they will open again!

Hope you have a good day!
Blessings,
Kathi
